The Varming International Alliance of companies traces its origin to the establishment of Steensen & Varming in 1933 in Copenhagen Denmark by the founders Niels Steensen and Jorgen Varming. The scope of their work included civil, structural and building services engineering, designed in close cooperation with architects such as Arne Jacobsen, and clients such as Nobel Prize winner, Professor Niels Bohr. Practices were established in Ireland (Varming Consulting Engineers – 1946), United Kingdom (Steensen Varming Mulcahy – 1957) and Australia (Steensen Varming Australia – 1973).
The organisation developed internationally and has been involved in many landmark projects such as:
Guinness Storehouse Visitors Centre, Dublin Ireland
Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour, NSW, Australia
British Library, London, UK
The international cooperation and exchange of knowledge between the international offices provides each practice with skill and inspiration from outside, while joint activities and development create a higher level of competence and capacity than anyone from the individual practice could master alone.
