The Varming building design team has been a part of many high-profile projects in our 75-year history, and we're here to tell you about another that just reached substantial completion. On this occasion, it's the state-of-the-art, 80-bed Community Nursing Unit (CNU) on the site of Sheil Hospital in Ballyshannon.
The €29.0m project our M & E engineers worked on comprised 69 single bedrooms, as well as seven twin bedrooms featuring a blend of short-stay, long-stay and specialist dementia wards. Major updates were also made to the existing hospital to facilitate ancillary, as well as day hospital services.
Varming's Work On the Project
Alongside the main contractor Boyle Construction Ltd, Varming's building services design consultants were commissioned to provide electrical and mechanical services, lift installations, and site monitoring, including Building Regulations Certification (BCAR) for the development of the South Donegal Community Nursing Home.
Mechanical installation features included:
Boiler plant with air source heat pumps
Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery
Soils & Wastes
Our electrical engineers also installed:
Patient wander management system
Lighting & emergency lighting with feature light
Upgraded LV infrastructure
G10 generator and ESB substation
Fire protection systems
Comms & cabinets
Nurse call system
Additionally, the lift installation included two new 33-person bed lifts over four levels and the replacement of the existing 17-person lift. To see full details of the work carried out, please follow this link.
