At Varming Consulting Engineers, we are a major exponent of new and emerging construction technologies, however, it's an industry that has often been slow to adopt new ideas. However, according to the State of Construction Tech report, this is something that accelerated significantly once the global pandemic hit.
The report show that the biggest uptake in technology has come in the form of software that facilitate digital collaboration for tasks like building design, as well as safety-oriented wearable tech and virtual scanning tools.
A Wide Range of Potential Uptake in 2023
So, what's in store for 2023 in construction tech? Well, the list of emerging technologies either used in construction or being designed specifically for it is an extensive one. It's one that's also growing fast and currently includes the following:
Building Information modeling (BIM)
Proptech & Contech
Internet of Things (IoT)
While it's hard to predict exactly what to expect in terms of technology adoption, the trends across Ireland and the UK currently are centered around the provision of data to M&E consulting engineers, architects et al and the urgent need for the Irish construction industry to regain some momentum after the year lost to the Coronavirus.
More advanced BIM systems & platforms like Digital Twins are set to become increasingly adopted over the next year, with open data being the next big debate that needs to happen.
