Connolly Hospital N+1 Generator Resilience Project – Shortlisted for 2026 ACEI Award
Varming Consulting Engineers Ltd. are delighted to announce that the Connolly Hospital N+1 Generator Resilience project has been shortlisted for the 2026 Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland “Mechanical & Electrical Project” for the professional services provided on our .
Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, required a fully N+1 compliant emergency power system across the campus. The project scope included the integration of two new 1500 kVA HVO‑fuelled generators with existing central MV generator controls, replacement of main LV switchgear in both substations, and upgrading transformers from 1 MVA to 1.6 MVA to deliver a robust, future‑proofed backup power solution.
Working with HSE Estates, Varming designed the automated control philosophy enabling synchronized “make‑before‑break” load transfers and short‑term grid paralleling, with dedicated local LV generators provided to support critical clinical areas during the works.
