Project Description

Varming Consulting Engineers were commissioned to design the mechanical and electrical services installations in Museum of Literature Ireland, St. Stephens Green.  Museum of Literature Ireland comprises three different elements; No. 85 a neo-Palladian townhouse, No. 86 a late Georgian villa and the Aula Maxima Theatre.  As James Joyce was student there from 1898 to 1902, the buildings and in particular the Aula Maxima have been chosen by UCD to house the James Joyce combination exhibition and learning facility for the study of James Joyce and his works.

Features

All works in the three buildings and in particular Nos. 85 and 86 conform to strict conservation requirements and minimising interventions to the existing fabric and finishes.
Comprehensive lighting, power, IT and protective services infrastructure to support the exhibition areas including the new mezzanine floor in the Aula Maxima.
Modular underfloor / in-ceiling void service modular hubs arranged in a regular grid to facilitate a variety of exhibition layouts being deployed.
Upgrade of the fire alarm, emergency lighting and security systems.
1 No. 1,000kg feature passenger lift, 1 No. 630kg ‘dumb waiter’ goods lift and 4 No. platform lifts.
New basement plantroom to service exhibition spaces.
Built-in core mechanical and electrical services to support a future full commercial kitchen and cafe.
