Project Description:
Varming Consulting Engineers were commissioned to design the mechanical and electrical services installations for this fast-track design and construction of a new state of the art Orthopaedic Theatre Block consisting of two state of the art Orthopaedic Theatres, with patient recovery bays, staff accommodation and ancillary spaces. The Development was constructed over two levels with the health care function at ground floor level and plant space overhead. The ground floor is linked back to the existing hospital via a link corridor.

Features:
All construction work was carried out immediately adjacent to live hospital activities.

Resilience of electricity supply to the new facility was addressed by designing all life-critical electrical systems with both uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and isolated power supply (IPS). The existing campus electrical generator was also fully replaced.

An enabling works package was carried out in advance of the main project to provide Aspergillus protection to the adjacent block in the form of air purification units, heating and air conditioning upgrades and all associated electrical services upgrades to the existing LV infrastructure with the main board extension, new electrical generation plant and LV, Medical gases & IT links.
